Ericsson @ Green Planet

Ericsson are proudly sponsoring TelecomTVs Green Planet  - which takes the most detailed and in-depth look yet at sustainable and environmentally aware ICT solutions, applications and business models.

The key environmental issues for Ericsson as for many companies in the Information and Communications Technology-sector (ICT) fall into two main areas: energy use and climate change; and materials and waste.

Ericsson uses four central principles to understand those impacts and address them with a consistent and methodical approach:

Environmental Management System (EMS). The environmental work is governed by the EMS which is regularly reviewed by external assessors for compliance to ISO 140001.

Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA). Our LCA work includes monitoring and reporting on our performance in: materials, energy, water, biodiversity, emissions, effluents and waste, products and services and transport. Key performance indicators can be found in this report and on our website.

The Design for Environment (DFE) is part of the standard requirement specifications we use in our design process, and ensures that environmental aspects are included in product design.

Ecology Management. At end-of-life, Ericsson offers a complete product take-back program designed to meet the EU Waste from Electronic Electrical Equipment (WEEE) directive and other national e-waste regulations. Ericsson has implemented this program not just in the EU but globally.

HP@Green Planet

Hewlett Packard are proudly sponsoring TelecomTV’s Green Planet –demonstrating the importance of greener ICT solutions, applications and business models and how it affects the lives of real people, towns and business around the world. Join the group and be part of a forum for debate, discussions and news around greener thinking.

Environmental sustainability is one of the five focus areas of HP’s global citizenship strategy, reflecting our goal to be the world’s most environmentally responsible IT company. For decades HP has worked to manage its environmental impact by adopting environmentally responsible practices in product development, operations and supply chain. In a world being reshaped by climate change, volatile energy prices and growing scarcity of natural resources, the company strives to be a global leader in reducing its carbon footprint, limiting waste and recycling responsibly.

In 2008, HP’s became the first major technology company to announce emissions data associated with its largest suppliers, in an effort to improve the environmental footprint of the IT industry.

HP has a comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability, dividing it into three components:

Minimizing our impact
HP works to reduce the environmental impacts of our own operations, as well as those of our suppliers, leading the industry and using our leverage to raise its standards (e.g. Hardware)

Helping our customers to improve their environmental performance:
HP provides products and services that help customers save costs while improving their environmental performance, from the desktop to the data center (e.g. Green Datacenters)

Driving towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy
HP delivers new products, software and services today and conducts high-impact research on sustainability solutions to move us toward a low-carbon economy. (e.g., HP Halo Collaboration Solutions)

These influence our work in the following 5 areas:
