Environmental sustainability is one of the five focus areas of HP’s global citizenship strategy, reflecting our goal to be the world’s most environmentally responsible IT company. For decades HP has worked to manage its environmental impact by adopting environmentally responsible practices in product development, operations and supply chain. In a world being reshaped by climate change, volatile energy prices and growing scarcity of natural resources, the company strives to be a global leader in reducing its carbon footprint, limiting waste and recycling responsibly.
In 2008, HP’s became the first major technology company to announce emissions data associated with its largest suppliers, in an effort to improve the environmental footprint of the IT industry.
HP has a comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability, dividing it into three components:
Minimizing our impact
HP works to reduce the environmental impacts of our own operations, as well as those of our suppliers, leading the industry and using our leverage to raise its standards (e.g. Hardware)
Helping our customers to improve their environmental performance:
HP provides products and services that help customers save costs while improving their environmental performance, from the desktop to the data center (e.g. Green Datacenters)
Driving towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy
HP delivers new products, software and services today and conducts high-impact research on sustainability solutions to move us toward a low-carbon economy. (e.g., HP Halo Collaboration Solutions)
These influence our work in the following 5 areas:
