Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy a trial IPTV solution that will provide subscribers with an enhanced television viewing experience.
According to its December 8 announcement, Alcatel-Lucent is providing SingTel with an end-to-end, integrated solution that is based on the Microsoft TV® IPTV Edition software platform as well as technologies from other partners.
The IPTV solution runs on HP ProLiant servers.
“HP’s expertise in digital media and systems architecture will help Alcatel-Lucent simplify the deployment of the IT elements of the IPTV infrastructure while providing SingTel with a scalable and cost-effective solution that meets the demanding requirements of IPTV,” said Peggy Dau, Director, Broadband and Media Solutions, Communications, Media & Entertainment, HP.
The technical trial, which began in October, 2006, will provide SingTel customers with user-friendly features such as instant channel change, multiple picture-in-picture and personal video recording functions including one-touch recording and pause live TV.
The content is in high definition-quality picture resolution. Alcatel-Lucent is working with SingTel to enable a variety of applications including multiple language support, music-on-demand, karaoke-on-demand, customer self-service and bill viewing.
