Qualcomm Inc., the big California-headquartered CDMA equipment company has announced the appointment of two new top executives. Andrew Gilbert, an Englishman, is to be the president of Qualcomm Europe in succession to Pertti Johansson who has been appointed to a new position as president of Qualcomm Middle East and Africa (MEA).~

Mr. Gilbert, a 25-year telecoms veteran, has worked in both Europe and the US.
He spent several years at Motorola with the mobile radio division there and ten years in the fixed line business. Most recently he served as vice president and general manager of Flarion Europe, a company just acquired by Qualcomm.~

Meanwhile, Pertti Johansson moves over and up to take over as the man in charge of Qualcomm’s burgeoning Middle East and African interests. The MEA is one of the fastest growing mobile comms markets in the world.~
