Germany trials IPTV

Germany’s mobile operators have allied for mobile television trials in Berlin, Hamburg, Hanover and Munich.

Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and E-Plus plan to offer digital broadcasting services under a consortium to share the burden of “several hundred million euros,” according to T-Mobile financial director Raphael Kuebler. ~ ~ The quartet has launched trial services through August 31, providing mobile video coverage of the World Cup in addition to select television broadcasts and 16 radio stations. Mass market handset launches are slated for next year, with mobile TV subscriptions expected to start as low as $6 per month.
