Interim results from TelecomTV’s Mobile Futures Survey show that the industry takes a pretty bullish line on its future prospects. Fifty five per cent of our respondents so far think that annual growth rates for mobile operators are likely to be more than 5 per cent per year. They’re also optimistic about the industry’s chances of playing a dominant role in content delivery. A full 75% believe that mobile music will be a good or excellent opportunity for growth.
In an other survey, 3ple-Media recently reported that subscriber attitudes are shifting in a way that elides with mobile operators’ ambitions. As you might expect the majority of subscribers (66 per cent) say they see their mobile operators as data connectivity providers.
But according to 3ple-Media an encouraging number already see them as being most like a cable or satellite provider: aggregating multimedia and contents services. Another 14 per cent think they can detect the solid, dependable characteristics of a bank - that “trusted guardian of their personal data and information” (really?).
The other good news is that consumer confidence is still high with 55 per cent of subscribers saying they are looking forward to receiving mobile multimedia in the future.
We will soon be able to see whether these subscriber expectations line up with the industry view when we publish the results of the Mobile Futures Suvey, supported by Qualcomm Inc.
It’s the first in a series of viewer surveys designed to grab a snapshot of industry sentiment on the live issues within specific sectors and are designed to illuminate what industry people themselves think about the trends and pressures affecting their sector’s performance.
The Mobile Futures Survey asks questions about revenues and costs; business models and investment trends, services and application and last but not least, where the experts (you) expect to see the challenges and threats coming from in the years ahead.
By completing the five minute survey participants join the TelecomTV Mobile Futures community. Not only will US$1.00 go to charity for each completed form, but participants will each a receive a full, free report on the final survey results.
All the survey data will, of course, remain completely anonymous: we only ask for your personal details is so that we can send you the results.
