Telecommunications Industry Association represents information and communications technology equipment manufacturers.
Washington, D.C. – FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced proposed net neutrality rules this morning in a speech at the Brookings Institution.
Following the speech, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the leader in advocacy, standards development, business development and intelligence for the information and communications technology (ICT) industry, issued the following statement:
"TIA has been a long-supporter of access to content over the Internet and the connectivity of devices, so long as such activity does not cause harm to the network. We are pleased to see that Chairman Genachowski recognizes the risks in promulgating unduly detailed rules and that he is proposing a methodical approach in deciding what constitutes reasonable network management. We also strongly support transparency as fundamental to principles that are meant to ensure openness, which the Chairman's proposal aptly recognizes through required disclosure of information to consumers.
"As manufacturers of the networks and suppliers of IP-enabled end-user devices, we offer our members' expertise throughout the process. It is in both consumers' and industry's interest to ensure that any rules be crafted in a way to promote investment and innovation in new products and services."
