One step closer to a T-Orange reality

The rival mobile operators announced plans to create the new UK player, on 8 September. It will lead the UK market with around 37 per cent of total UK mobile subscribers (based on figures from December 2008).

The new entity will have a subscriber base of 28.4 million and revenues of approximately €9.4 billion (£7.7 billion). The deal will also shuffle Vodafone, until relatively recently the market leader in the UK, to near the bottom of the deck with only 3 running fewer subscribers.

Yesterday, the companies completed the confirmatory due diligence needed to speed up the deal. “Our joint venture, which has now passed a major milestone, will set new standards in the UK mobile sector,” said TimotheusHöttges, CFO of Deutsche Telekom.
