Arlington, Va. - It's all about the customer. Faster, better access to applications and services, anywhere, anytime, using any device. Service providers are challenged to leverage their network assets in delivering a broad array of business, residential and mobile services. Wireless and fixed-line transport infrastructure play a critical role in giving customers satisfactory service.
Leading technologists and strategists looking for answers to address limited capacity, cell-tower shortages, migrating technologies from legacy systems to IP networks, security breaches and network outages are coming to Dallas May 17-20 to attend TIA 2011: Inside the Network, the new annual Summit and Exhibition hosted by the Telecommunications Industry Association.
Among seven primary educational tracks relating to the central theme, "Inside the Network," is Converged Networks. The track, which is sponsored by Nokia Siemens Networks, offers both Technology sessions designed for network engineers as well as a separate Services and Applications series.
The key driver in network convergence is the accelerating move from last-generation technologies such as TDM (time division multiplexing) for voice and ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) for data to a more consolidated network running on an IP, Ethernet and an optical foundation. The result is improved flexibility and cost of today's networks. It is also enabling networks to be much more application- and service-focused – a key requirement for carriers to deliver Web and cloud services online, not to mention the IP mobile apps and services delivered over today's 3G and tomorrow's 4G networks.
Service providers must establish scalable backbone infrastructures while reducing transport costs and increasing network efficiency. Converged network backbones leverage optics and IP together to deliver the lowest cost per bit for reliable transport across the backbone for the breadth of existing and emerging services.
TIA recently produced a preview TIA 2011 Converged Networks webinar, featuring Nokia Siemens Networks, Yankee Group and NII Holdings Inc.
