Strategic alliance-making in M2M proceeds apace as NEC and Wyless Corp announce an MOU to explore the joint development of end-to-end M2M. By Ian Scales.
NEC says the agreement will see it promote the Wyless advanced management software, Porthos, to mobile network operators and enterprises globally and NEC will add Porthos to its own M2M CONNEXIVE portfolio. Wyless will also promote M2M CONNEXIVE solutions to its own customers.
Like the other big IT/telecoms infrastructure and software vendors, NEC identifies a major long-term integration opportunity around cloud computing/services and networking.
The vendor companies that can draw the cloud and network strands together into a cohesive solution-set for telcos and large enterprises in particular, will be well-placed for future growth. M2M infrastructure and services will form an important part of this whole.
Wyless styles itself as the 'leading M2M managed services provider'. It handles deployment, management and security for large estates of remote devices undertaking M2M functions, and its customer roll includes T-Mobile, Sprint, Everything Everywhere, and Telefonica.
