Where the planning of data centres is concerned sometimes a radical approach to the problem can be of enormous help in fostering and promoting greater efficiency. This sort of innovation, now being demonstrated in data centres across the globe, can also save money, energy and space whilst vastly reducing carbon footprints.

In Episode 3 of Green Planet, TelecomTV looks at examples of modularity and smart cooling, with case studies (from the Far East and the Farthest West) illustrating the value of innovative thinking on both sides of the world.

Participants:

Takashi Hanazawa, Director R&D Planning Department, NTT
Dean Nelson, GDS-Global Lab & Datacentre Design Services, Sun Microsystems

Hello GP fans! You will have seen from my comment last week that we were overflowing with the data center story, struggling to fit everything in to what is a mammoth topic. Following on from this, the team here at TTV took the executive decision to give you a bonus episode, providing case studies of two companies that are amongst the leaders in the industry using innovation for efficiency and ultimately sustainability.

We will be back on track next week, when episode 4 will focus on the green telecoms network, with incredible stories from India, Bangladesh, Africa, Australia and the US. Happy viewing!
