The failure of the world’s governments at COP15 to reach a legally-binding agreement on climate change means that the ICT industry has a second chance to be acknowledged as a crucial part of the drive towards a low-carbon future. TelecomTV reports from the final week of COP15 and speaks with the Secretary General of the ITU about the future role of ICT.

From David Eurin, Head of Energy Consulting, Analysys Mason.

I attended the Copenhagen Conference and presented my view on how investments in ICT could help mitigate climate change, and in particular reduce/limit carbon emissions. My speech is available at www.analysysmason.com.

I believe ICT has a good chance to be more widely recognised as a focal point for climate change adaptation and mitigation. In particular, from today until 31 JANUARY 2010, all developing countries (Annex II) must submit, as part of the Copenhagen Accord, a set of mitigation actions - to be included as Annex 2 of the Accord.

ICT players should approach Heads of States in developing countries to explain the merit of ICT investments, for social and economic development and carbon emission reductions.
