Beginning January 1, 2011, nearly 15,000 residents of South Carolina will have access to cutting edge IPTV services and ultra-fast high speed video and data thanks to a Triple Play Express solution being deployed by West Carolina Tel.
West Carolina Tel is deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play Express, which is designed to bring to a comprehensive, pre-integrated voice, video and data solution to regional, local and Independent service providers.
West Carolina Tel signals the market opportunity for TPE that exists in this market segment. To address this market, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) developed the TPE solution specifically to meet the unique needs of these operators.
“Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will provide us the capabilities to better serve our customer with the latest services” said Dave Herron, VP and General Manager of West Carolina. “Their approach for rapid delivery, with a tested and integrated solution, was key in our decision to choose them.”
“Alcatel-Lucent is committed to broadband for all and delivering broadband services to every customer regardless of size. Our TPE solution is the only end-to-end solution of its kind and enables us to support these important, yet often underserved regional markets,” said Charles Marsh, Vice President of Sales for Major Accounts at Alcatel-Lucent. “Our win with West Carolina Tel illustrates how Alcatel-lucent can deliver a solution that is highly competitive and sizeable to any market.”
The TPE Solution deployment will include the market leading micro-architecture of the Microsoft Mediaroom™ platform that Alcatel-Lucent recently announced. The TPE solution will also support Video-on-demand, HDTV, Remote DVR, an Operator Mosaic Channel, an applications Dashboard, and Enhanced CallerID that will be delivered as services to West Carolina customers.
Alcatel-Lucent’s TPE solution is tailored to regionally-focused operators, utilities and municipalities in North America, all of whom want to generate incremental revenues and position themselves for future opportunities. These service providers are looking for a complete yet flexible solution that meets their needs to quickly launch interactive TV services – fitting the size of their subscriber base and providing them with the foundation for delivering other revenue-generating, IP-based applications at a later stage. Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play Express is the first packaged end-to-end IP video solution that meets these requirements. It takes advantage of Alcatel-Lucent’s market-leading experience in delivering integrated Microsoft Mediaroom™ -based IPTV solutions and extends that to operators starting with as few as 5,000 IPTV subscribers.
