" 3Com is a loser. I have been tracking them for the last 10 years and have not found anything they have developed and stuck with as a product that differentiates them. " Business Logic does not deal well with a product provided by one party (Cell Carrier) that is required to use a WIRED Broadband Link (usually provided by a competitor) to allow its customer to make a Cell call over the Wireless Network. Not only that, the Home Broadband Link, usually terminated on a Router, in most cases a Wireless (WiFi) based unit, can provide a similar Wireless connection in the home by using the emerging VoiceIP services connected to the house phone(s). Why would these new LTE networks, scheduled to use the 700Mhz spectrum, have concerns with in home penetration of their customers homes. The spectrum should penetrate most all structures. From a Pricing/Contract standpoint you would have to deal with the following bill to deal with a ew LTE FemtoCell deployment: 1. DSL Link 2. FemtoCell 3. Cell Network VOice & Data service Check out what Time Warner Cable is charging for its new VoiceIP-RoadRunner-Clear(WiMAX)FIxed/Portable bundles, and then run what Verizon Wireless and or AT&T will need to charge their customers for similar services. " I agree that the Google/Yahoo of the world will dominate the Cloud Space. What will happen is the Last Mile Service (Broadband)providers will end up partnering with these boys and packaging their content/processing and Apps in with their local content and delivery. Google has the right idea in their OpenEdge approach to Local SP-specifically providing them with a Cache server they can use to aggregate and distribute Googles Apps over their local IP Nets. The local SP will also have a roll to play with select SMB offering them special Back up and Restore Services (from 3rd parties)along with the Cloud apps. Jim A. " Fear is rampant within GSM. WHy spend the time and effort to create a format that is effectively obsolete as we speak. There are 2 developments that make this effort irrelevant: 1. With the emergence of these Software Define Radios (SDR)that will begin appearing shortly (in masse) it will not matter what Network/Format or Spectrum is being used all new PC/Customer Access Devices will eventually have the means of connecting to any avialable network (spectrum). 2. Google's new Open Roaming Patent when (and not if) accepted will effectively obviate the need for this new GSM effort. Of course this is what scares the GSM group and its big (walled gardened)Carriers. they will effectively lose control of their networks as these networks are forced to become truly Open to both systems and applications, and they will become simply a another wholesale (last mile)link as the Telco have been forced to become over the last few years.
