" Oh dear Martyn, you're walking a thin line between your inate hatred of Authority and Corporations. There is certainly enough of it in your belly to swing you back pretty soon against Authority again. Fact is, S&P was a slime ball then, in 2007/2008, when it blessed tranches of mortgages given to deadbeats by pressure from these sources: a- lender's greed, b- its own greed, and last but not least, c- the US government, which blackmailed lenders to give away loans to deadbeats, or else get sued for discrimination. What did you expect lenders to do? Under duress, they did what finance operatives are supposed to do, securitize and resell the smelly paper to spread the risk. Sorry, investors in the US and all over the world !... S&P should have been punished and crushed THEN, for not alerting the securities buyers, not NOW when it correctly downgraded a demagogue government that overtly will not cut its alarming expenditures while facing a ballooning debt that cannot be paid by even over taxing the wealthy to death (which of course would dry out the overall revenues anyway). No, I'm not a banker, or with a Credit Rating company, I'm just an electrical engineer employed with an American Telecom. I often enjoy your articles though, and your prose style, they're often amusing, so keep them coming. Excuse me? Oh, the ideas on them?... Well, let's not worry about them, but your style is very good though! That's what you are in it for, right ? "
