'Big Data' is this year's black and it's often seen as being about size or volume. But for companies it's really about the combination of data available inside the organisation coupled with data that may come from outside, Aimie Chapple, Managing Director, Management Consulting at Accenture, tells Martyn Warwick. The key -  and where M2M crosses over with Big Data - is to combine different data sources and types to create value? 

This interview was conducted in London at FT Innovate 2012, an international conference designed to showcase ways of employing new technologies and big data to unlock new markets.

Huge businesses, such as YouTube or Tumblr, have in recent years been built around the trend to user generated and curated content. But already change is in the air, according to Charlie Marshall, Strategy Lead, Media & Entertainment Industry, Accenture, talking to Martyn Warwick at IBC 2012.

 
User generated content (UCG) has its place, but from a media perspective it usually falls short on quality and production values. So we're now seeing a new trend to 'prosumer' content with the emergence of the 'semi-professional'  content producer with access to powerful new (increasingly cloud-based) editing and production tools.
