Dean Bubley of Disruptive Analysis on why an OTT network "n'est pas une dumb pipe". Yes, Facebook and Google could soon be doing over the top (OTT) voice services in competition with telcos. But, he argues, so could Vodafone! (for example).
In his recently-published report, Telco-OTT Strategies Dean outlines why OTT is not about becoming a dumb pipe, it's about remaining a smart business. Only through embracing an OTT approach, he tells Ian Scales, can telcos compete properly with each other and with their increasingly powerful Internet-based rivals.
Connectivity over the top is a huge opportunity, he says, so instead of casting OTT as the evil bogeyman, telcos should stop talking out of both sides of their mouths, take advantage of LTE as a 'reset' button, and start innovating end-to-end services across each others' infrastructure.
