Whilst we in Britain have enjoyed an extra long long-weekend to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee and markets here have remained resolutely shut, over in the US it has been business as usual and, as usual, that business has been the continuing collapse of Facebook stock. Incumbent French telco France Telecom/Orange, long infamous for its disdain, smugness and over-developed sense of entitlement to customer loyalty (and their cash) despite doing precious little to earn it, has had a rude awakening to the realities of life in a rather more genuinely competitive environment - one that it hates, fears and does not understand, as Martyn Warwick reports. The Facebook floatation is now, officially, the worst of any major IPO in more than 10 years. The shares have lost more than 20 per cent of their launch value in just eight trading sessions. Nonetheless, the company seems to be on the acquisition trail again even as honeymooning CEO Mark Zuckerberg fails to leave tips in Roman restaurants, as Martyn Warwick reports. (1)

As the shocking extent to which UK politicians of all stripes have for so long pandered to and fawned upon Rupert Murdoch and News International has slowly become apparent, it now also emerges that the Conservatives, the largest party in the current coalition government, have been assiduously courting Google as well. On only the second day of the public trading of Facebook shares the price fell by 11.3 per cent as banks and brokers withdrew the support they had reluctantly provided on launch day (Friday of last week) to keep the share value above the initial offering price. It is expected that the over-hyped and over-priced stock will continue to slide. By Martyn Warwick. (1)

"I'm not going to sell anybody's email address. I have no intention of making any money from this." Guess who said that? (too easy really, so no prizes for the winners). Yes, it was 20-year old Mark Zuckerberg on launching what was then thefacebook.com back in 2004 during his short tenure at Harvard University, as Martyn Warwick reports. (3)

For the benighted souls out there who don't come from cricketing nations, a googly is an off break bowled with a leg break action. None the wiser? OK. It's cricket ball bowled as if to break one way that actually breaks in the opposite way - the purpose being to baffle the batsman and get him out - caught or bowled. And that's what Google is attempting to do to mobile operators with its new Android OS strategy, as Martyn Warwick reports. (1)
