"Where is a multi-billion pound railway build really a broadband initiative?" asked Alice. "In the UK of course," roared the Queen. In more grumbles, the Codgers ask: Bundles - what are they about and who wants them? And then there's the EU changing the opt-in rules (about time) as evidence of misuse of personal information grows. While in France, the land of Free, there's been a fracas over Google's tax affairs and so the thought has occurred: "Let's try and get Google to pay the telcos as well."

'Sending network pays' may have been the lion that didn't roar at WCIT, but the telco effort to "get Google to pay" for network investment goes on in France where the operators appear to be acting in concert to force a net neutrality busting content payment deal. By I.D. Scales. (0)

The build-up to the ITU's WCIT has been long and tortuous. Much argument and hyperbole has flowed - most of it from self-styled 'Internet defenders' who have talked up the dire implications of any sort of ITU involvement with the Internet. For their part, the proponents of the ITU's new ITRs are sullen and defensive. What chance consensus? By I.D. Scales. (1)

There is a minor storm (well it IS August holiday season) brewing in the US over net neutrality as AT&T preps a package for Apple’s Facetime that is blatantly non-neutral and discriminatory. So open and shut case? By I.D. Scales. (0)

You might think “self regulation” must have had its political day in the UK in the wake of the LIBOR banking and the newspaper phone hacking scandals (ongoing), but here we go again with a voluntary net neutrality code. It’s been cosily drawn up to suit the very companies that need the closest watching and so, naturally, it is just a collection of loosely-described escape hatches. By I.D. Scales. (0)
