The industry is facing increasing demands for real-time charging, driven by the growth in handset OS markets. A flood of low cost smartphones in Asia, particularly from China, is compounding the situation, together with the growth of data usage through ‘all-you-can-eat’ pricing. However, this problem can become a real opportunity for service providers to move up the value chain and better compete with the OTT threat, if they move away from reliance on their traditional network equipment providers.

Operators should give consumers more control over their services and the control of them, which will lead to greater loyalty and usage. There’s a demand appearing from regional operators to globalise their propositions, as they look to grow and extend their reach.
