Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazarides, the co-CEOs and co-chairmen of Canada's Research in Motion (RIM), maker of the BlackBerry, have finally bowed to the inevitable (and relentless investor pressure) and have resigned. However, they are not actually going anywhere. Both men will stay on with the company as board members whilst Mr. Lazarides will also be vice-chairman of the company and also the leader of a new layer of bureaucracy, the "innovation committee". BlackBerry has outlined a go-local approach to emerging markets after surviving another stoush with the Indonesian government. The Canadian device manufacturer Research in Motion's South-East Asian MD Greg Wade told Asia Report in an exclusive interview it has resolved its issues with Indonesia, learned valuable lessons and is poised for future growth with a strategy for targeting emerging markets with its much-anticipated PlayBook tablet.
