Telkom and Vodacom today concluded roaming and facilities agreements.

The roaming agreement covers 2G, 3G, and LTE roaming with seamless handovers between Telkom and Vodacom networks.

The facilities leasing agreement will allow Telkom to use Vodacom towers, antennas and shelters to build out its own network.

According to Telkom Group CEO Sipho Maseko, seamless handover and 4G mobile technology are new additions to Telkom’s roaming agreement which will improve the customer experience on the Telkom network.

"The facilities leasing agreement will allow Telkom more efficient capital and operational expenditure," he continued. It complements Telkom's network rollout programme as Telkom remains committed to expanding its network. "The agreement enables quicker site acquisition in the medium term," said Maseko.

Telkom currently has a roaming agreement with MTN which expires in June 2019. The company will conduct a phased transition from the current roaming agreement, which will be concluded by the end of the contract period.

"I am pleased we have concluded an agreement that enables us to improve our network efficiently," he concludes.
