TOKYO, JAPAN, June 10, 2016 --- NTT DOCOMO, INC. announced today that it granted a patent license covering standard-essential patents for its wireless communication technologies to HUAWEI.

DOCOMO has now granted the standard-essential patent licenses to more than 10 companies, including Huawei, and plans to grant such licenses to other companies in the future.

For some two decades, DOCOMO has been one of the world-leading companies engaged in the research and development of mobile network and service technologies for systems based on the W-CDMA, LTE, LTE-A and 5G standards. As a result, DOCOMO now possesses more than 5,300 standard-essential patents for W-CDMA, LTE and LTE-A standards.

DOCOMO receives licensing fees for its standard-essential patents via both patent pools and directly from individual companies. Under the patent pool system, interrelated standard-essential patents are licensed together by the patent holders.

Going forward, as DOCOMO further researches and develops mobile-communication technologies, including the to-be-standardized 5G next-generation mobile communication system, it will continue to license its standard-essential patents via patent pools and individual negotiation.
