If mobile operators needed to launch 5G this year, the only option they have is to go the non-standalone (NSA) route. At which point, the issue of migration standalone (SA) 5G becomes highly relevant as SA is really the endgame for 5G with its new 5G Core and support for features such as network slicing. This is not a model that the industry has faced in previous generations. The migration path needs to be agreed even before operators launch, yet the timing of this is going to be partly dictated by the availability of terminals and devices.
