Bryan Davies, Cloud and Network Services, Core Network Portfolio Marketing, Nokia.
Bryan Davies explains how the introduction of 5G leads naturally to the reorganization of centralized networks into an end-to-end distributed cloud, and what it means for service providers.
5G is more than just a radio upgrade. It brings with it new network capabilities like support for very low latency and massive device interconnectivity. This enables new service opportunities, but the current centralized nature of networks can’t deliver them.
As 5G progresses, networks will become distributed across hundreds of edge clouds. This will have many impacts on the service provider business:
- CSP business plans will need to accommodate service mix changes
- Automation will be required to handle the added complexity
- Business relationships with enterprises and webscales will change
In short, the service provider business will undergo rapid change in a short time at a fundamental level. Is your network and business ready for this?
