Community-focused ISP Lit Fibre has appointed industry expert Steve Robertson as Non-Executive Director, as the company continues its mission to bring world-class fibre broadband to towns across the UK.
Steve brings to Lit Fibre more than four decades of leadership experience in telecoms, including leading Openreach from its inception in 2005 until 2011. During his time at Openreach, Steve was a passionate advocate of delivering the benefits of broadband, initiating the first large-scale fibre to the premise (FTTP) programme in the UK.
His appointment comes as Lit Fibre accelerates the rollout of its 10Gb capable, full fibre network to towns across the UK. Today, 12 towns are able to experience the benefits of a full fibre connection with a further five towns due to receive Lit Fibre soon. This brings the total number of homes that will benefit from Lit Fibre’s full fibre broadband to over 350,000.
“I’m delighted to be able to join Lit Fibre. The business is driven by a focus on quality and innovation. Its culture, values and customer focus resonate strongly with me,” comments Steve Robertson on his appointment. “Building a high-quality network, supported by the very latest technologies and a community-driven rollout will significantly accelerate the take-up of fibre broadband in the UK. It’s a real honour to join the talented Lit Fibre team at such an exciting phase in their journey. I am looking forward to using my experience to help and support the team as the business scales.”
Tom Williams, CEO and co-founder of Lit Fibre, adds: “Steve’s appointment is really exciting news and a huge win for Lit Fibre; his industry expertise, incredible experience and energy will be highly valuable to the whole team. We are on track to deploy a rock-solid network to 500,000 homes by 2026. I am delighted to have Steve’s support and welcome his guidance as we continue our mission to enable more communities to connect to gigabit symmetrical speeds, without compromise.”
Lit Fibre is currently available in Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Redditch, Melksham, Harpenden, Sutton Coldfield, Chippenham, Cirencester, Evesham, Clacton-on-Sea, Bishops Stortford and Sudbury, with installation underway in St Albans, Chelmsford, Welwyn Garden City, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Potters Bar.
