PLDT's fibre business records 45% YoY revenue growth; captures almost 60% of industry new customers
The country's leading home broadband and digital services provider PLDT Home achieved stellar results in 2022, with its fibre-only service revenues growing by 45% to P48.5 billion. As of end-2022, PLDT Home’s fibre customers stood at 2.9 million, with 514,000 net additions for the year, capturing almost 60% of fibre customer industry growth last year.
“These numbers are a reflection of our commitment to narrowing the nation’s digital divide by connecting more Filipinos nationwide and providing Filipino households with the fastest and most reliable home broadband connection in the country. Despite the many challenges, we sustained our growth momentum all thanks to the trust that our customers have given us. We will continue to level up our products and services to provide Filipino households with the technology and tools that they need to power their digital lifestyles,” said Jeremiah de la Cruz, Senior Vice President and Head, Consumer Business Group – Home at PLDT.
PLDT Home’s total revenues, counting fibre and non-fibre revenues, accelerated by 20% to P57.4B, an historic high, marking the second consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth for the segment, with fibre-only revenues accounting for 84% of total Home revenues.
Ookla®, the company behind Speedtest® and the global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications and data analysis, consistently recognised PLDT as the Philippines’ fastest broadband provider for five consecutive years.
Customers can enjoy up to 10 Gbps of symmetrical internet speeds or equal upload and download speeds for their work, school, entertainment, or lifestyle connectivity needs at home. PLDT has also increased the speeds of all its Fibre plans up to two times faster. It also introduced the Easy Speedboost promo where customers can enjoy up to 600 Mbps speed upgrade with a minimal add-on fee monthly.
Aside from a strong network, PLDT Home has also released a suite of relevant products and services to ensure that Filipinos can have an access to a complete Smart Home ecosystem.
Customers can improve their connectivity further with the WiFi Mesh System which enables the entire home with Fibre-fast speeds, solving the problem of WiFi dead spots at home with top-of-the-line WiFi 6 solutions, perfect for those who need a robust connection for streaming, gaming, and video conferencing at home.
PLDT Home also pioneered the MyOwnWiFi, a first-of-its-kind add-on service that allows existing Fibre customers to have a secondary internet connection with the same speeds as their Fibre base plan, at half the price. MyOwnWiFi allows solo heavy bandwidth users at home to enjoy priority connection without worrying about hogging the connection for the rest of the family members. This service also comes with WiFi Mesh as part of the offer.
Aside from fibre broadband, PLDT Home has also been offering its fixed wireless solution for years now, to ensure that the telco can serve all segments of the market.
Powering the nation’s digitalisation aspirations, the PLDT Group has further expanded its total fibre footprint to approximately 1.1 million kilometres, consisting of over 231,000 kilometres of international fibre and around 866,000 kilometres of domestic fibre as of end-2022. Homes passed reached some 17.2 million homes in 68% of the country’s cities and municipalities.
These initiatives are aligned with the PLDT Group’s endeavours to provide connectivity to all, and to anchor initiatives on UN Sustainable Development Goal # 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. These also reinforce PLDT Group’s commitment as one of the founding members under the Digital Infrastructure group of the Government-mandated Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) formed in 2022, with PSAC programs such as GoDigital Pilipinas aimed at expanding access to digital technologies.
