Ribbon Names Industry Veteran Keith Tan to Head its Thailand and Malaysia Operations
Bangkok – Ribbon Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: RBBN), a global provider of real time communications technology and IP Optical networking solutions to many of the world’s largest service providers, enterprises, and critical infrastructure operators to modernize and protect their networks, today announced the appointment of Keith Tan as Country Head for Thailand and Malaysia.
“We’re pleased to welcome Keith Tan to Ribbon,” said Mickey Wilf, Ribbon’s General Manager APAC and EMEA, IP Optical. “I’m confident that with his leadership skills and industry knowledge he will be a key partner to our customers, helping them accelerate their network transformation and improve their competitive positioning by introducing innovative new services.”
Mr. Tanbrings with him two decades of experience in the network transformation space, with proven expertise in solution sales and planning, technology operations, and leading large projects throughout Asia. His focus will be on growing Ribbon’s success in helping carriers and enterprises evolve their business communications with innovative IP Optical networking solutions.
Prior to Ribbon, Mr. Tan was the Head of Optics businesses for Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar at Nokia and has amassed a wealth of experience in the telecom sector, working with some of the region’s leading operators including AIS, Telenor, True, Ooredoo, Hutchison, and others.
Ribbon’s success in supporting the region’s infrastructure development includes a recent project with Moratelindo, Indonesia’s second largest fixed broadband provider. Ribbon’s advanced optical solutions enabled the service provider to more than double the capacity of its Sumatra backbone to 3.6 Terabits per second, delivering connectivity to the world’s sixth largest island over its entire 473,000 km2 area. Additionally, the 280 kilometer-long Batam subsea link, which extends Moratelindo’s reach to Singapore, now boasts an additional 2 Terabits of transmission capacity.
Moratelindo also benefits from a 200G network that is 400G-ready, enabling it to introduce new bandwidth-hungry services quickly and easily. The Sumatra optical backbone uses Ribbon’s Apollo 9932 Core OTN Switch at multiple nodes, leveraging its massive 16T switching capacity for efficient services grooming and routing over the backbone. Ribbon’s TM800 programmable transponders maximize transmission capacity on the Batam subsea link, providing the highest optical performance and delivering optimal line rate and service capacity for any set channel condition.
“This is a critical project and Ribbon prevailed in a highly competitive process by offering a range of solutions that best meet our needs,” said Michael McPhail. CTO, Moratelindo. “We know from previous experience that Ribbon are able to deliver in these challenging sections of our network and we look forward to our expanded relationship.”
“I am so proud of the work we’ve done with Moratelindo and look forward to helping service providers and enterprises in Thailand and Malaysia successfully transition to next-generation networks for improved speed, capacity, and economics,” Mr. Tan added. “Thailand’s telecommunications industry is undergoing a major transformation due to both new technologies and extensive merger and acquisition activity, leading to increased competition among the country’s major players. Ribbon is well-positioned to help them leverage 5G and more thanks to our innovative IP Optical networking solutions and cloud-to-edge communications solutions. I look forward to showcasing these new solutions to our customers and prospects.”
