- Opensignal, an independent global standard, names Virgin Media best network in its latest report that analyses real-world fixed broadband experiences of users across the UK.
- Virgin Media came out on top in five categories including consistent quality, download speed, upload speed, video experience and reliability experience.
Virgin Media is named best network in every category of Opensignal’s latest biannual report – including consistent quality, download speed, upload speed, video experience and reliability experience.
The report examined the real-world fixed broadband experiences of users across the UK, analysing performance data from July 1 to September 28, 2024, across 12 different regions.
Consistent Quality (Percentage based results) The research used six key performance indicators including download and upload speeds, latency, jitter, packet loss, and time to first byte, setting thresholds appropriate for individual rather than multiple device usage. Virgin Media was named the most consistent network, achieving a score of 90.4%, significantly outperforming Sky Broadband (72.3%) and EE (83.1%).
Reliability Experience (100-1000 points) The category measured the ability of a household to connect to the internet and to successfully complete ‘uninterrupted’ tasks across multiple devices, encompassing work and recreational activities. Virgin Media was named the most reliable network, achieving a score of 763 – better than Sky Broadband (644) and EE (584).
Gareth Lister, Director of Connectivity at Virgin Media O2, said: “We’re committed to providing our customers with fast and reliable connectivity, so being recognised by Opensignal as the best performing provider across all five categories is fantastic news. It is testament to our ongoing investment and hard work to give our customers the best broadband experience possible.”
Over the past 12 months, Virgin Media has started rolling out smart support, a 24/7 broadband speed and connection monitoring service which is already available to most customers – and at no extra cost. Additionally, Virgin Media customers can benefit from a broadband speed boost to the next available tier e.g. 100Mbps to 200 Mbps, at no extra cost when they take both Virgin Media and O2 services. To find out more and activate their speed boost, customers can simply log into My Virgin Media or My O2 to link their accounts.
