How Formula One racing cars trickle innovation down to the family saloon

Here's something for the petrol-heads amongst you. Formula One motor racing was very recently all about big V8, normally-aspirated engines, Michael Taylor tells Martyn Warwick. But now F1 demands very small V6, 1600cc engines with big turbochargers, making it much more relevant to the mainstream car industry. That's important because Formula One innovations - traction control, anti-lock braking and semi-automatic gear-changing - tend to feed down and these days the next tranche of innovation will involve connectedness. Michael explains that today's F1 cars have multiple data feeds from over 150 censors and generate 25MB of data... per lap.
