TelecomTV asked members of the public whether they would prefer to be billed for watching mobile video in minutes or megabytes. The results show that that most subscribers would prefer buying video minutes, rather than megabytes, as it would make their bill much easier to understand.
According to Mate Prgin, President & CEO at Avvasi, “Separating video from generic data traffic is the beginning of the path towards mobile video monetization. It allows network operators to escape the inevitable per megabyte margin decline by layering a new service, with a price and a value that is clearly separated from generic data and for which demand is rapidly increasing. Additionally, video charging must evolve from byte to minute charging. It is a model well understood by consumers, announcers and content providers alike, and its implementation will help center the value chain around a common unit of value.”
