KT(CEO Hwang Chang-Gyu, www.kt.com) was in London for three days from October 18th to the 21st in order to attend the BBWF(Broadband World Forum) and present their giga speed over copper wire, GiGA Wire technology. The BBWF is comprised of telecommunications companies from around the world, and attended by their top executives. The conference also has a large influence on deciding the future of the ultra-high-speed internet.

During Mobile World Congress 2016 and at this year’s BBWF KT encouraged the adoption of their new GiGA Wire technology in the global market. Most of the wiring in older buildings is copper wire in the European market, making it extra ripe for the GiGA Wire technology. KT expects a lot of untapped demand in the market.

AT BBWF, KT unveiled a number of first in the world solutions which utilize the GiGA Wire 2.0 technology. At BBWF KT revealed 1.4Gbps can be achieved with bidirectional transmission when the technology is applied to a coaxial (copper) cable. When the device is installed in homes, both wired and wireless internet can be used at the same time via the GNT + WiFi AP integrated technology with a single device. In environments where the normal power supply is inaccessible, two phone wires are sufficient to power WiFi AP via the Power Feeding technology.

KT attended this event under the name GiGA Wire Alliance (www.gigawire-alliance.org), an organization KT played a key role in forming. GWA (GiGA Wire Alliance) is an organization dedicated to bringing GiGA Wire to the world market and expanding its adoption in order to continuously improve and surpass the existing level of current technology, both domestically and abroad. At this expo, GWA Telecommunications companies from around the globe, device manufacturers, and chip manufacturers decided to heavily promote GiGA Wire technology and the establishment of the GiGA Wire Alliance.

KT Fusion Technology Institute director Lee Dong-myeon said "GiGA Wire is already running as pilot projects in Turkey and Spain and we are currently pushing for commercialization in the Asia and Americas regions. At this exhibition, we are hoping to increase the awareness of GiGA Wire, as a both a technological and a business opportunity in markets around the world."
