Tokyo - Rakuten Mobile, Inc. today announced new milestones in its plans to bring the Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP) to international markets. To launch these global efforts, Rakuten Mobile has established its international headquarters in Singapore as both a development center for RCP and the central hub for global sales and marketing. Global sales and marketing will be led by newly-appointed Rabih Dabboussi.
“We are developing the Rakuten Communications Platform offering to be made available to telecom companies, government organizations and other enterprise customers around the world,” said Tareq Amin, Representative Director, Executive Vice President and CTO of Rakuten Mobile. “RCP offers a speedy and cost-efficient deployment of fully virtualized cloud-native network services and I’m very excited to welcome Rabih Dabboussi onboard as Rakuten Mobile’s global head of sales and marketing to lead our global expansion.”
Rabih Dabboussi joined Rakuten Mobile in May 2020 to lead RCP’s global sales and marketing efforts from its newly established international headquarters in Singapore. Dabboussi brings more than two decades of experience in the mobile industry to Rakuten Mobile, including a 20 year career at Cisco in diverse roles of R&D, technical consulting, and business leadership. After Cisco, Dabboussi spent four years helping to establish startups in the areas of secure mobile communications, cyber security, and the digital transformation of governments and enterprises.
“I am thrilled to join Rakuten Mobile, a formidable organization with strong innovative vision, customer centricity, and unparalleled focus on quality,” Dabboussi commented. “I am very excited about the opportunities ahead of us and the value we will bring to our customers and partners as Rakuten Mobile brings RCP to telecom and enterprise companies around the world.”
To support global sales and marketing for Rakuten Mobile’s RCP offering, the company plans to establish a U.S. entity in California that will serve as a hub for international business expansion in the Americas. The U.S. entity will be led by Azita Arvani, General Manager, Rakuten Mobile, Americas.
“We’ve made great progress demonstrating the capabilities of RCP to the telecoms industry,” said Arvani. “We look forward to becoming a local partner to carriers and governments in the U.S. and the Americas region as they transition to a secure, affordable and cloud-native network architecture, and as they upgrade to 5G.”
Amin concluded: “Rakuten Mobile has moved at incredible speed through ideation to full 4G service deployment in Japan and 5G service scheduled to launch this year. RCP combines the technology blueprint and expert playbook of our work to date in building the wold’s first cloud native mobile network, and I am extremely excited to work with Rabih Dabboussi and our international team to bring the platform to customers around the world as we democratize the mobile industry.”
