If 5G is to include a service with sub-millisecond round trip delay then basic physics demands that a powerful 'edge computing' component is included, say proponents: new air interfaces and fibre-based backhaul will only get you so far. And for that to work out, the architecture not only needs to elide with NFV, it must work with all networks, not just cellular. It's a bracing prescription, is enough effort being put into seeing it through?
