Presentation
The policy agenda unveiled by the European Commission in early 2020 has put digital technologies at the centre of its priorities, as confirmed by the September announcement of President Von der Leyen that 20% of the new Resilience and Recovery Fund (RRF) will be dedicated to digital. The COVID-19 crisis has amply demonstrated the key role that digital networks and services play in sustaining our economies and societies, while geopolitical tensions and trade conflicts have underlined the need for Europe to be able to support itself in the development and deployment of these technologies.
Pearse’s presentation will thus outline how we expect R&I agendas to support a world class European digital connected ecosystem, and touch on important related topics such as open strategic autonomy, the Green Deal and the wider Sustainable Developments Goals. In that context, spin off innovation from advanced research materialised through global standards is a necessary ingredient for success.
