KPN is committed to a #BetterInternet that is greener, more social and safer. To this end, KPN has also set concrete objectives in the field of sustainability and climate. The ambitions for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in the short and long term contribute to the global efforts to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. KPN has had its climate objectives re-evaluated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
SBTi validated the following emission reduction targets regarding KPN's sustainability ambitions until 2040:
- In 2030, KPN aims to reduce its absolute scope 1 emissions by 84% and in 2033 its absolute scope 3 emissions by 75.6% compared to 2015.
- KPN is committed to continuing to purchase 100% renewable energy annually (scope 2).
- KPN aims to be net-zero for its total emissions by 2040, including the impact of its suppliers and customers (scope 3).
“The fight against climate change is one of the most urgent societal issues and of great importance to our customers and future generations. That is why we at KPN work closely with our suppliers and customers to achieve our ambitious climate goals. Emission reduction is and remains a top priority, for example, we make the transition to sustainable and local energy sources with the right power at the right time by coordinating the supply and demand of renewable energy. We have also been committed to significant energy savings for years, despite the strong growth in data traffic,” said Joost Farwerck, CEO KPN.
KPN has been working on #BetterInternet for years , an internet that is not only faster and more stable, but above all safer, more social and greener. As a green provider, KPN is committed to sustainability and reducing its impact on the climate. In 2017, KPN was one of the first companies in the Netherlands to join SBTi, an initiative aimed at enabling organizations to make a substantiated contribution to CO₂ reduction. In recent years, KPN has made great strides forward with long-term agreements for the purchase of renewable energy from wind and sun .
