Lynn Comp, Senior Director of Market Development, Network Platforms Group, Intel & Julia Ochinero, Senior Director, NFV and Telco Marketing, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise
Lynn and Julia ponder the practicalities telcos must consider when planning for the introduction of 5G. Can one network really support the diverse range of use cases envisioned? What technologies must be in place before a telco can claim to have a 5G network? The most important thing to plan for, though, is the critical journey from connectivity provider to digital service provider. The new 5G infrastructure composed of a distributed compute fabric, a programmable multi-layer connectivity fabric and a pervasive decision fabric. What about timing? They think it’s important to build out the networks now, where appropriate. Why wait? Why not make money before 2020.
