Service providers are faced with new challenges and requirements, in parallel with a flattening ARPU curve. The solution lies in innovation and implementing NFV and SDN to transform their networks. By selecting a set of use cases, virtualising that part of the network first, a service provider can gain knowledge and insight before scaling out across the entire network. A step-approach can quantify the value of virtualisation and is the most sustainable approach. 5G adds a further transformation process, further decomposing the network following the abstracting of services, thereby aggregating services where they need to be.
