Intel has launched its next-generation server processor, the XEON E5 V-3, designed specifically for SDN/NFV applications. At the same time it served up a server reference architecture based on the chip. Martyn Warwick talks through the implications of the architecture for the success of SDN/NFV with both Intel and its partners. There are still hurdles: the performance and latency issues on specific applications are important to telcos, but Intel has done an amazing job on performance say industry observers.
