Search and social media have already had a profoundly disruptive impact on the traditional insurance companies and that disruption is a trend and phenomenon that is is only just beginning. If the emergence of comparison sites took the wind out of their sails and left the stately old insurance galleons becalmed, the power of bespoke platforms running group buying apps will blast away the rigging and superstructure leaving old-fashioned insurance organisations adrift and defenceless. Many of them will sink unless they act now.
