IoT encompasses a wide range and variety of technologies, some new while others are very well understood, established and widely deployed. Telematics is one such and, as Vassilis Stivaktakis explains, although telematics provides huge amounts of data to them, in the past insurance companies have failed to take full advantage of what is, potentially, one of their greatest assets. Now though, with the current emphasis on IoT, established players are realising that the wide sweep of big data combined with the deep insights that can be made available on individual customers by the use of sophisticated new data-mining techniques can create great value for them.
