16 November 2016, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that its smart on-board diagnostics (OBD) connection solution had been selected by TeliaSonera, the leading telecoms service provider (TSP) in Northern Europe, to power its telematics service, TELIA SENSE.

Available since the first of November in Sweden, the TELIA SENSE service combines ZTE’s innovative Internet of Things (IoT) device, developed by ZTEWelink, a subsidiary of ZTE that focuses on M2M/IoT, with a cloud-based platform and app from SpringWorks, a telematics platform provider under Telia. TELIA SENSE provides users with a rich application experience.

Based on the smart 4G OBD device, TELIA SENSE provides users with a stable and reliable 4G Wi-Fi connection which can connect up to 10 devices at once. Users can also view[ vehicle location, set up virtual fences or receive vehicle disturbance alerts through an app to better understand driving behaviour, and save on fuel consumption. Through cooperation between Telia and a third party service provider, users can also achieve lower premiums and find the nearest garage when there is a vehicle failure or maintenance need. Additional TELIA SENSE services are expected in the future.

“In terms of automotive IoT, the connected car is quickly replacing smartphones as more and more operators and TSPs choose to expand in the IoT market with an OBD connection solution, which will provide them with the data to develop more added value business services,” said Zhang Shumin, VP of ZTE Corporation. “We’re excited to team up with Telia in order to help better serve car owners with telematics data.”

As a wireless communication solution provider, ZTEWelink is continuously exploring the field of telematics under the guidance of the ZTE mobile ICT (M-ICT) strategy. At present, the company can provide a device solution, a device & platform total solution, a standard interoperability solution between TSPs and an application server, as well as numerous demonstration scenarios to act as references for different platform constructions that might be required by customers with differing situations in various geographies.
