Saudi Arabia, Riyadh – April 15, 2019 – Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) today announced it has helped the Saudi Payments launch the first ever local mobile payment system for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an advanced application that has enabled Visa payments by mobile. Today, all banks in Saudi Arabia are using this payment system.

The solution, built on HPE Synergy and using HPE 3PAR and HPE Synergy Image Streamer, provides an agile infrastructure, the highest levels of application performance and the fastest provisioning process, whilst meeting anticipated compliance standards. The HPE Synergy composable infrastructure solution empowers the virtualized and containerized elements needed to run the unique application set at the heart of the system, whilst at the same time providing compute resources for the database environments across various customer sites.

HPE led the design and implementation of the back-end system and supported Saudi Payments, to help them choose the right technology so that members of the public can easily make payments and purchases through their smartphones. After originally starting as a proof of concept using HPE Synergy as a lab, the system went live in May 2018.

Abdullah Altammami, Infrastructure Manager from the Saudi Payments said, “HPE has been a real partner from the test stage to project completion and the team’s commitment, tenacity and flexibility has made them an ideal partner as we successfully introduced contactless mobile payments to the Saudi Arabian market for the first time”.

Issa Alkhames, Managing Director, KSA from HPE said, “As the Saudi market sees significant digital transformation as part of its Vision 2030, we were delighted to be selected by Saudi Payments as its partner to create a sustainable solution which provides consumers in Saudi Arabia with greater choice through access to contactless mobile payments.”
