VMware and Lumina Networks are collaborating on how best to introduce network slicing for CSPs in a multi cloud environment, ensuring that the existing networks are provisioned automatically and that the network is dynamically driven. CSPs want to create overlays either regionally or nationwide throughout the entire infrastructure and dedicate each slice to a particular use case with a guaranteed quality of service. Some of the major complexities concern orchestration and the ability to connect multiple clouds. Operators need to make sure that bandwidth is assured, reserved and dynamically created as a slice gets delivered – all the way from the central office to the base stations and to the applications and services.
