Developers submit 15k BlackBerry 10 apps in two days

Jan 15, 2013

RIM reported that developers submitted 15,000 applications for its new BlackBerry 10 operating system during a virtual “Community Port-A-Thon” event running over the weekend. The event awarded developers $100 for each eligible mobile app or game approved. Developers who submitted 5-10 approved apps were also given a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device, and the first 10 developers with 10 approved apps were given a paid trip to BlackBerry Jam Europe.

HTML5 developers can design native-quality Web-based apps, while RIM is also offering tools for building BlackBerry 10 apps on the Adobe AIR runtime and the BlackBerry Runtime for Android. Just 9 per cent of respondents to an IDC survey said they are very interested in writing BlackBerry apps – an all-time low. RIM should unveil its first BlackBerry 10 devices on January 30.
