Vodafone India Deploys a Cisco Next-Gen Network

Cisco solutions will provide Vodafone with a multiservice convergence platform to serve Vodafone’s residential, business and mobile customers with a single network infrastructure, thereby lowering its capital and operating costs.

Vodafone will also be able to deliver newer data services at faster mobile broadband speeds to its customers, enhancing their experience.

Traditional networks cannot to scale up to address the flexibility required by new consumer entertainment and communications services, making it imperative for service providers to upgrade to a IP network infrastructure.

As noted in the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Forecast (2012-2017), there will be 2 billion networked devices in India by 2017, up from 1 billion in 2012, and mobile data traffic is expected to grow 60-fold from 2012 to 2017.

Cisco is analyzing and designing a state-of-the art architecture that is scalable, flexible and highly secure. In line with this, Cisco is providing Vodafone with its next-generation product and solutions designed and tested specifically for evolving markets that are going through a hyper data growth phase.

Cisco’s Globalization Center East, in Bangalore, India played a role in the development of some of these products.

“Vodafone has always been a pioneer when it comes to enabling customers to enjoy a superior connectivity experience. With the growing market dynamics and radical changes in consumer behavior, there is a need to anticipate market requirements and act now to stay competitive and provide best-in-class services to our customers.," said Vishant Vora, director - Technology, Vodafone India.

He added, "We are investing in technology and getting IP-fication of our backhaul networks done. It will further enhance our customers’ experience. We look forward to working with Cisco, as it has extensive hands-on experience in many markets and the most comprehensive portfolio of broadband solutions in the industry.”

Vodafone India is a member of the Vodafone Group and commenced operations in 1994 when its predecessor Hutchison Telecom acquired the cellular license for Mumbai.
