CableLabs is a non-profit research and development consortium for cable operators across the globe. It also defines interoperable solutions among member companies and their technology vendors to drive scale, reduce costs and create competition in the supply chain. CableLabs provides members with access to interoperability testing and validation though its own, newly-opened, state-of-the art laboratory. Network transformation is driving huge investment, and as Phil McKinney explains, NFV itself is a broad church encompassing both both the wireline and wireless aspects of the global industry and it is part of CableLab's remit and purpose to to facilitate the intertwining and interoperability of the two disciplines.
