When you combine cloud economics with the technology and applications coming from the cloud and enterprises, telcos already have the wherewithal to develop valuable edge applications, says Bryan Madden. Telcos need to understand that the edge adds value beyond low latency applications. For instance, with NFV already installed they can easily move a media function to multiple servers at the edge to optimise video service and associated analytics. Intel is focused on this sort of application with technology specifically designed for visual cloud workloads, such as its Visual Cloud Accelerators Card-Analytics.
