NFV’s ability to reduce cost and improve agility is making it a critical technology for operators today, says Chongfeng Xie, senior engineer, director of NFV R&D team at China Telecom. There is no time to waste as increased competition from other carriers and OTT players are now pressuring carriers to adopt open-source technologies, specifically NFV in open source. In this context, OPNFV is becoming increasingly important in bringing all the different upstream open source communities under an end-to-end umbrella for service providers, as well as to bring new elements such as security into the fold.
