Comcast has launched a so-called ‘over the top’ video service called Stream, enabling customers to watch live TV from all the major broadcast networks and HBO on their phones, laptops, tablets and connected TVs.
Xfinity internet customers will pay $15 a month on top of their internet bill for the service and it will be available first in Boston before moving to Chicago and Seattle before the end of the year, with full service in the US by early 2016.
However, it appears that subscribers will only be able to stream inside their homes, not across other networks (so not really OTT in the proper sense). Comcast says the service will also feature on-demand movies, access to the TV Everywhere and provide a cloud DVR for storing users’ video content.
