China Mobile turns down the power

It has the world's largest mobile network: 1.1 million base stations which together burnt through 14 billion kilowatt hours of electricity last year, representing a full 40 per cent of its Opex. But, according to Dr. Chih-Lin I, Chief Scientist of the China Mobile Research Institute, talking here with the TIA, the operator has managed a 52 per cent energy efficiency improvement this year. Without that, the China Mobile power bill would have been for 30 billion kilowatt hours.
